“Sampan”..my name and Blog name is the Thai word. The meaning in Thai is “a Good Relationship”. For Thai, the name is an appropriate only for man not for woman. When I was young, I wanted to change my name because I didn't want to be a boy by a mistake. However, when I grown up, I found it's incidentally concurrent with the word “Sampan” in Chinese.A sampan (Chinese:舢舨; pinyin: shānbǎn) is a relatively flat bottomed Chinese wooden boat from 3.5-4.5m long(approximately12-15 feet). Some sampans include a small shelter on board, and may be used as a permanent habitation on inland waters. Sampans are generally used for fishing or transportation, in coastal areas or rivers. It is unusual for a “sampan” to sail far from land as they do not have the means to survive rough weather (wikipedia.org). Nowadays “sampan” is used throughout the world with the same meaning as “boat”. As a consequence, it's such a pretty name which is my beloved and proud of. It might be a destiny that I have been a fisheries biologist who work for the oceans;however, the one difference is that I have a brave heart and strong enough to sail out to discover the open seas not only within the coastal areas.
